Samantha Knobel Biokineticist started as a small independent practice at the beginning of 2020. Over the years, our team has grown. We currently have a team of five dynamic biokineticists working at our Wynberg Practice.
We are based at the Wynberg Boys' High School Gym. We have use of the school grounds and the high performance gym equipment.
As a practice, we see a wide range of clients with varied conditions - ranging from orthopaedic and chronic disease complaints, to high performance athletes attempting to enhance their performance or return to sport post injury.
We aim to provide our clients with personalised, evidence-based exercises in a stimulating and encouraging environment that allow them to start, or continue, their rehabilitation or health journey under our skilful and attentive supervision.
We also collaborate with several other health care practitioners in the area, and very strongly believe in addressing all aspects of your health in our more complex rehabilitation cases.
We believe in thriving in a state of wellness

I am passionate about leading a healthy, active lifestyle, and I enjoy helping others achieve the same. I'm incredibly driven, but am a firm believer in work-life balance. I love to travel and make the most of the beautiful outdoor lifestyle that Cape Town affords me.
Discovering my love for what I do was a rather long-winded journey. I did a BSc undergraduate in Human Physiology & Anatomy and Genetics, followed by a Bachelor of Science Honours in Exercise Science and then finally found my calling through my Bachelor of Medical Science Honours degree in Biokineticist. I did all my tertiary studies at the University of Cape Town.
I completed my Internship at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa, where I worked with a wide range of cliental. Here I gained experience and technical skills, and valued working as part of an inter-disciplinary healthcare team. I was fortunate to work as a junior Biokineticist at another private practice for a further two years before deciding to start my own practice.
Scope-wise, I am drawn to challenging orthopaedic conditions, and I really enjoy working with young athletes, particularly helping them manage their injuries and guiding their sport-specific preventative strength and conditioning programmes.
I have a strong background in neurological rehabilitation and working with special populations such as the elderly, differently abled, and those struggling with mental health conditions. I also help many clients manage chronic disease conditions such as high blood pressure, weight-related issues, heart failure, diabetes, chronic pain and fatigue syndromes.
My practice is rooted in a philosophy that promotes wellness across all aspects of health, empowering my clients with the tools they need to thrive through their exercise routines. I take great pride in supporting my clients on their journeys, whether it's guiding them through short-term injury recovery or helping them achieve long-term goals, such as managing chronic conditions or enhancing strength and conditioning for optimal sports performance.
Helping people and making a difference in their lives has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Biokinetics allows me to combine this with another one of my passions, which is fitness and exercise. I love how rewarding it is, and that we can make a difference in other people’s lives.
I obtained a BSc Sports Science and Bachelor of Science Honours in Biokinetics from the University of Stellenbosch in 2019, completed my internship in a small practice in Paarl in 2020 and have been contracting for Samantha Knobel Biokineticist since 2021.
As much as I enjoy our scope as a whole, I have a special interest in working with orthopaedic rehabilitation, sport-specific conditioning, as well as chronic conditions.
Over the years, I have definitely been more drawn to working with young athletes who are recovering from injury, or who are looking to better themselves within their sport. I enjoy the challenges that they pose, and how rewarding it is watching them get back to doing what they love.
I love how each case is so unique and provides its own challenge. I absolutely love the fact that we prescribe exercise as medicine, and that we have a role in helping people to live healthier and happier lives.
Having grown up in Joburg and moving down to Cape Town for varsity, it is safe to say that I’ve fallen completely in love with the Cape. I spend my weekends running with my friends and family, grabbing post-run coffees and croissants, hiking up the mountains, and enjoying the rest that Cape Town has to offer. Sport and exercise have always been a passion of mine, so I am in the fortunate position to have my passion, transfer over into my profession.
I completed my BSc Sports Science undergraduate degree and Honours degree in High Performance Sport at Stellenbosch University, followed by an Biokinetics Honours degree in Biokinetics at The University of Cape Town. I completed my Internship year at Samantha Knobel Biokineticist and Michelle Moxley Biokineticist in 2023, and I am now working as a Junior Biokineticist at Samantha Knobel Biokineticist.
Having being exposed to very wide range of conditions and clients in my internship, I find that I enjoy working with all spheres of people, cases and clientele. The diversity is what I value most about our profession.
I have an interest in working with what I like to call the “recreational athlete,” with a particular passion for returning orthopaedic patients back to their sport or activity.
I take great pleasure in empowering people with the tools of how to use exercise as a form of rehabilitation and I love connecting with people through exercise. I take pride in helping people get back to a point where they can exercise after an injury. I love helping people realise the benefits of movement and how it can change your life for the better. Exercise is this incredible tool that I feel everyone should know about, and everyone should be doing. I love that my job allows me to deliver this message.
If you had to summarise me in one word it would be ‘Extrovert’. I thrive in environments where I can connect and interact with those around me. This outgoing trait has allowed me to constantly challenge myself and explore beyond my comfort zone. Always outside, on weekends I’m never one to shy away from trying new activities and seeing what beautiful Cape Town has to offer
Having been involved in almost every sport possible, I was prone to injuries and fell in love with the rehabilitation and recovery process. This journey started when I completed my undergraduate degree in BA Sport Science where I specialised in disabilities and was exposed to incredible people and opportunities in the field. I later completed a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Biokinetics , both of which were obtained from Stellenbosch University.
In 2024 I successfully completed my internship under Samantha Knobel Biokineticist and have the privilege of staying on as a Junior Biokineticist for 2025.
Within the scope it is challenging to isolate my interests to one particular population. As a whole, my interests lie in helping our clients realise their potential and providing them with the tools and support needed to achieve it - whether it be returning to their sport or instilling confidence to join a gym or try a new physical hobby.
In this profession, we are privileged enough to interact with people from all walks of life with no goal too big or small. After gaining some work experience, it has become evident how daunting the rehabilitation process can be.
Having understood this, my philosophy is to meet an individual at their current level of ability and to use the necessary education and skills to empower them while working towards a greater outcome.
I take pride in the fact that I can use my outgoing nature to both mine and the client’s advantage by taking the edge off of rehabilitation - therefore helping you enjoy and become comfortable with the process as you learn more about your body and just how much it can do.
I am very passionate about Biokinetics and overall health and wellness. I've always been a sport-fanatic and discovered Biokinetics through a knee injury whilst playing rugby that led me to a Biokineticist for rehabilitation and I immediately knew that this is the job I want to do, and I never looked back.
I completed my BHSc undergraduate in Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, followed by a BHSc Honours degree (Biokinetics) in 2024. I will be completing my internship at Samantha Knobel Biokineticist in 2025 and I am very excited to be able to practice what I am so passionate about.
I have always had a major interest in orthopaedic rehabilitation and sport-specific rehabilitation, However I have grown to love special population as well as neurological rehabilitation very much and also enjoy working with chronic conditions and geriatric populations. I aspire to become a Biokineticist that is comfortable to work with complex conditions in all modalities of Biokinetics and have a diverse skillset.
Exercise is medicine. I have already seen so many incredible transformations in the lives of patients receiving treatment from various Biokineticists. It is amazing how much power exercise holds when it is scientifically applied to combat specific ailments. I will strive to make a positive difference in as many people's lives as possible and in as many ways as possible!
I’ve always had a natural attraction to movement and physical activity. My journey began with hip-hop dance as a child, which evolved into sports during my adolescence years and resistance weight training in university. I am a football/soccer fanatic, I have played almost every position, I played it as video games, and I manage my own fantasy team. I promise that I am not one of those soccer players who rolls around on the ground after a tackle.
Having personally experienced various injuries from a young age, I became passionate about physical rehabilitation and biokinetics. I was amazed at how targeted exercise not only aided my recovery but also restored my confidence.
These experiences sparked my academic journey, leading to a Bachelor of Science (with majors in Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Biology) and a Bachelor of Medical Science Honours in Biokinetics, both from the University of Cape Town. I am deeply committed to lifelong learning, and one of my aspirations is to complete an MPhil in Biokinetics in the future, to further enrich my knowledge and contribute to research in this field.
I am deeply passionate about all aspects of Biokinetics. The complexity and individuality of orthopaedic rehabilitation resonate with me, as I enjoy tailoring interventions to suit each person’s unique needs. Athletic training also interests me, particularly due to my own experiences with training and the profound impact it has had on my life. Chronic disease management holds a personal significance, given my mother's battle with multiple chronic conditions. Finally, neurological rehabilitation has become the most fulfilling aspect of my work in Biokinetics, as it offers the opportunity to make a real, transformative impact on people's lives.
Though my journey in Biokinetics is still in its early stages, I firmly believe that movement is a powerful gift. My approach focuses on empowering individuals by enhancing their abilities and helping them recognize their progress, whether short-term or long-term. Rather than aiming to make people fall in love with exercise, my goal is to help them move past any dislike of it and transform it from a chore into something they can seamlessly incorporate into their daily lives. I also believe in the importance of not limiting oneself, and view exercise as one of the most effective tools for achieving the best version of yourself.
