"Biokinetics" is a uniquely South African term, meaning "life through movement". It is a profession that specialises in the science of movement and application of exercise to aid in rehabilitation and or to enhance physical performance.
Biokineticists are exercise specialists that are regulated by Health Professions Council of South Africa.
A biokineticist will prescribe highly individualised and scientifically-based exercises with the aim to improve general health outcomes - such as one's physical and mental wellbeing and or to improve specific physical performance outcomes.
Biokineticists work in a wide range of environments. From rehabilitation centres, where individuals are recovering from orthopaedic or neurological issues, to wellness settings where individuals are attempting to improve their lifestyles and manage chronic conditions. Biokineticists are also found in sport and performance settings where athletes attempt to reduce their risk of injury and or improve their physical performance through specialised strength and conditioning.
